Internet Marketing Tips – How to be Successful
I was listening/watching some video presentations from a internet marketing conference last night and the conference was unique in that it was focused on how to create and sell a product online.
So many internet marketing products are focused on how to make thousands on pushing some affiliate marketing ebook or how to spam social bookmarking sites with a 1000 fake twitter accounts or whatever. The focus on this conference though was to think about the internet as an another avenue for selling your product.
It was interesting to hear about how to really evaluate the customer and buying psychology. Where is the customer coming from/traffic source and does your product match that (ie- trying to sell anti-aging offer/ebook to traffic coming from myspace is not going to convert) or if you are targeting a young audience then videos might convert better who probably use videos a lot or have high-speed connections.
Here are some other quick tips I thought worth sharing:
- Think about the product design/sales process BEFORE you even create the product. Poor design will kill sales.
- If you use landing pages, make them easy to read and make place of action (button to click) easy at the top. Limit choices to 2 options (don’t give options of 5 payment plans or something.
- MAKE LANDING PAGES PUSH BUTTON SIMPLE
- The best products can just be improvements on existing products out there. Rather than trying to create a whole new market, just improve an existing product out there.
- TEST, TEST, TEST……..try different prices, different ad copy, different landing pages and measure results between them. MANY INTERNET MARKETERS DON’T DO THIS BECAUSE THEY ARE LAZY………
- Just lowering the price won’t necessarily increase sales. Sometimes too cheap will cause customers think it is an inferior product.
- Map/diagram out the sales process for your site so you have a clear understanding what your customer will experience……offer downsells if customer decides to leave your offer page. Offer a free ebook or trial offer when signing up to your email list.
- Don’t undersell your value. Your knowledge is worth something.
- Match your add-on products to what your initial product is…….meaning if your initial offer that drew the customer to your site was how to create a store on ebay, then don’t try to offer add-on product on pay-per-click marketing………unrelated products won’t convert well
- DON’T LIE TO YOUR CUSTOMERS…..there is so much hype among affiliate marketers review sites and other stuff claiming great results but many products end up being extremely disappointing to the customer. Building credibility/trust will payoff in the long run.
- EVER WONDER WHY SOME COMPANIES PAY OUT MORE IN COMMISSIONS THAN WHAT THE ENTIRE FIRST SALE WAS…….It is because many times companies lose money on the 1st sale with new customers but they will make it back on future sales. YOUR GOAL SHOULD BE TO BUILD TRUST WITH YOUR READERS OR CUSTOMERS SO DON’T SELL THEM JUNK AND YOU WILL BUILD A LONG TERM CUSTOMER. (I am amazed how some top affiliate marketers can continually email out constant stream of new affiliate products and recommend all of them(many of which aren’t very good)……They must have done a good job of building trust with their customers.
Overall, think about your strengths and what knowledge you have that is unique and evaluate how you can create a product or service online offering that knowledge. YOU CAN DO IT. You just have to start and try it. You can only get better by trying and learning what doesn’t work.
Personally, my professional working background is in investment real estate and and an instititutional stock broker. I could evaluate how to create an informational product about stock investing, owning real estate, or being a landlord that is actually adding value and not hype.
For this website, I guess my goal after watching these presentations is thinking about how I can offer value to my readers and think about what I should add to encourage people to sign up for my email list without adding lots of hype.
